Wendy Cooper, champion for healthier lifestyles for children and families and a recognized health and physical education expert, Wendy is well known as the President and Founder of Healthy Highway, her innovative curriculum-based K-5 program that enriches children’s lives through teaching and encouraging health, fitness and nutrition. Keynote Speaker Wendy H. Cooper is a 30-year retired physical education elementary school teacher, a champion for healthier lifestyles for children and families and the founder and president of the award-winning Healthy Highway program; a program that uses traffic metaphors as a tie-in to practicing a healthier lifestyle. Wendy’s passion is to one day see that every child has the knowledge and opportunity to enjoy good health.

Well respected by her peers, Wendy has spoke nationally before several professional audiences that include: Illinois State Conference National Physical Education Institute in North Carolina; New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (NYSAHPERD); and American Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD) National Conferences in both Tampa, Florida and Indianapolis, Indiana. She is the recipient of the 2015 Amazing Person Award from NYSAHPERD; Healthy Communities Partner of Excellence Award from the Special Olympics; and the very first Health Award from Greece Chamber of Commerce in Greece, NY at their 30th Annual community Awards Gala. 

The Healthy Highway program received national recognition in 2012 when it was featured on Rachel Ray’s Yum-O website and in the Yum-O Newsletter. Well respected by her peers, Wendy has been recognized for her indomitable will to help children and families develop healthy lifestyles. She has served on a number of health related committees including the Greece Central School District Wellness Committee and K-2 Assessment Committee and initiated a partnership with Wegmans Food Markets implementing an in-school nutritional program focused on health, nutrition and education for school-age children.

In 2008, Wendy contributed her time, talent and knowledge to develop an after school program for Two Doors Community Resource Center, a local nonprofit in her hometown, that created an environment where physical activity and healthy eating was accessible and encouraged for both students and their families. She is currently a leader in the Prevent Obesity Network, a national initiative that works to change policies and environments to help children and families eat well and move more, especially in communities at highest risk for obesity.

Wendy Cooper holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Physical Education from Kent State University in Ohio and completed her graduate studies through SUNY at Cortland and Brockport College. She was one of the inaugural participants of the American Master Teacher Program in content and pedagogy.
